What’s in a name?
We chose the name Toomashie Industrial Inc. because it says something about who we are, where we come from, and how we want to do business. The Toomashie name has deep roots in Southern Labrador, with connections to Inuit families and communities throughout the Sandwich Bay area.
Historical records show the name in several forms, including Tumashea and Toumishey. Research published in Them Days also points to a possible connection with an Inuk man identified in nineteenth-century records as both “Old Tumashea” and Toomashin Coonocock. While the exact origin of the family name cannot be confirmed, variations of Toomashie have appeared in Labrador records since at least the 1800s.
Carrying the name forward is both a source of pride and a standard to live up to. It reflects the values that guide the company today: strong relationships, dependable work, respect for community, and a commitment to creating opportunities that will last for generations.
